1st Step Referral Services, LLC

ACCOUNT

Level 1: Information - 4 hours
This is a basic education program that focuses on driver responsibility, legal consequences in Michigan, cost of use, learned behaviors, BAC levels, the disease concept, and more. The first 4-hours of this program is designed to provide information to prevent further offenses and to set the foundation for individual application in Level 2.

OVERVIEW OF DUI CURRICULUM

Participants receive certificates after the highest level is completed

Level 4: Follow Up - 1 hour per session
These are individual sessions, starting approxi- mately two weeks after completion of Level 3. The purpose is to thoroughly evaluate the quality of work done in the previous sessions, to monitor the participant's continued application outside the classroom, and to identify & address any additional risk factors for relapse. Additional sessions may be required.This is the only segment that a discharge summary and recommendations will be documented for court purposes.

Level 3: Maintenance - 4 hours
This segment concentrates on letting go of old habits & ideas and replacing them with new, healthier skills to maintain positive, long-term change. Stress management, intra-personal skills, re-defining values, and support groups are discussed. This intensive segment holds the participant accountable as they take their learned skills into their real-life situations and report back to the group for an honest critique of their effort.

Level 2: Application - 4 hours
This segment is designed to facilitate exploration of decision-making behaviors that have resulted in negative consequences. A self- assessment, development of a Change Plan and multiple interactive group & self-application exercises are introduced to help the participant clearly evaluate their situation and the steps they need to take to remain abstinent and avoid further consequences.
